Final Devlog

We are in the final stretch of the production work and with that this devlog is gonna be somewhat of a post-mortem for myself.

First off, I wanna give a big shout out to my team!! Lucas G, Lucas M and Zach you guys have been pretty fun to work with! We’ve made a pretty solid game all considering with having only one programmer. We learnt a lot about how to work with each other, tackle difficult situations and being able to juggle many hats for one another.

In terms of what I learn about myself during this entire process?

BURNOUT SUCKS. Granted I feel like that is a well known thing but I’ve learnt that for one thing when I burnout I burnout hard during school. It is a completely different burnout than when I was out of school and because of that I did find it harder to really bounce back from. This was one of the main takeaways I had that I want to remember moving forward into 4th year. As much as I took time to myself to try to work around it, it was a longer than usual process that won’t be viable to do during capstone. Self care is important and all that don’t get me wrong but it indeed a personal frustration.

From the more positive side, I’m proud of myself with the art assets that I was able to create for our game. Especially the use of animations for the title screen and the small cutscene for the Meltdown trigger. Of course there are things I wish I could change or spent more time on but everything is really solid. I also did something I never thought I would do which was use Illustrator to create assets. It mainly came out because I needed to learn the program for a potential co-op opportunity which I used some of the microgames to test it.

For a bit of comparison: this was my first tries at Illustrator

vs a much later creation. While simple, it was much easier to work with and not struggle with the program

Ending Thoughts

It’s been a rather stressful year but I’m happy to have worked on this game with my team and learnt new things while doing so. Forward into fourth year lets gooooooo
